EARTH STEPPER
In 2035, the world had experienced global warming that had exceeded 2 degrees above preindustrial levels. This led to significant changes such as the disappearance of mountain glaciers and rivers, increased flooding, and difficulty in maintaining basic food supplies. Governments across the globe were forced to come up with a radical plan to address the impending disaster.

The final solution was to reduce individualistic activities that had a negative impact on the environment. This involved the construction of modern wall cities, which began in Saudi Arabia in the 2020s. These cities are powered by clean energy sources and managed by machine learning to minimize environmental footprints. The controlled environment also features beautiful parks and recreational spaces.
The wall of the modern society is equipped with advanced sensors and cameras that use facial recognition technology to monitor people's activities. The primary focus of this controlled environment is to conserve resources and protect the planet by promoting innovation and new technologies. The government regulates clothing and food choices, and free movement is restricted outside the wall. Everyone follows a plant-based diet and wears uniforms, and virtual travel is available to all.

THE RITUAL
In our society, there is a tradition called "Earth stepper" where every person residing within the walls is granted the opportunity to live in the natural world for a month on their 21st birthday.
Those outside the walls have the responsibility to connect with nature and contribute to its regeneration. During the ceremony, the individual is provided with a survival kit that includes a coat that doubles as a tent, a body suit that serves as a sleeping bag and has biosensors to monitor their internal organs and fitness, and a life kit containing a water bottle and essential modern tools.
